HMS Forward in Newhaven, East Sussex

Been visiting here on and off for a few years, a fantastic set of tunnels hidden away under South Heighton, such a shame that this is not a museum, as they played a vital role during the 2nd world war. In 1941, 130 miners dug 550 yards of tunnels through rock chalk and seams of hard flint 20m below South Heighton, north of Newhaven, in just 17 weeks. The purpose of the project was to house 100 or so naval personnel who monitored the sea off the Sussex coast midway…

A Breathtaking ABANDONED Church in Sussex with POWER

I found out about this derelict Church in East Sussex. Luckily I found an open door and what was inside was absolutely breathtaking. It was the middle of the day when I first came here and I didn’t know if I was seen on-site, so I left the entrance as it was, and decided to return the following morning. I set the alarm for 5:30am the following morning and after a couple of cups of tea I headed out to the Church. I arrived at approx 6:30am and the sun was just…

Abandoned Animal Feed Mill in East Sussex

The abandoned animal feed mill in East Sussex. The original building was built in 1380 but suffered a fire around 1880 and the mill was rebuilt on top of the original mill. Apparently the water wheel is still under what is currently there. The newer building was built in 1950 and re-modernised in 1968. The last owners abandoned the site around 1999 and it has been left to rot ever since.

St Anne’s School in Lewes, East Sussex

So we tried to get in here in February but the place was sealed tight, after that we sort of forgot about the place…After we saw a video from ‘Joe Weller’ exploring this place, we headed off in hot pursuit to try get it done before all of his fans make their way there… HISTORY – The original building and more importantly the land that it sits on has a very rich and interesting history, it closed down as a school for “Difficult” children at the end of the Summer…

Ashdown Pub in Hastings, East Sussex

We found this place hidden in the trees on a housing estate (very odd place to have a pub), walked around the back and found a way in. Once inside we noticed that it seems far bigger on the inside than what it looks from the outside. There is a pinball machine, arcade grabber machine and the bar’s were still in “ok” condition, however you can tell this place has suffered considerable abuse from vandals. We have found little information from previous planning permissions that this was originally intended to…

*NOW DEMOLISHED* The Golden Martlet (Cuckoo’s Rest) Burnt Out Pub in Hellingly, East Sussex

I used to drive past this everyday on my way to work, but never once took a good look around, until today! This is the remains of The Golden Martlet (AKA The Cuckoo’s Rest) built in 1902 (approx). Abandoned after a fire in 2001 which gutted the building. After finding out the pub was completely destroyed, the owners moved the pub to a converted barn next door, and renamed it to The Cuckoo’s Rest. Unfortunately as of 21/06/2016 the buildings have been demolished to make way for housing.

The Meads Club in Eastbourne, East Sussex

I took a trip to a small village in the heart of Eastbourne, East Sussex, and came across this abandoned club. I thought it was a church or small school but I was shocked to find a bar and even a full size snooker table inside. A little history… The club has a troubled and controversial history and is being sold by auctioneers Clive Emson on Tuesday February 23 2010 with an asking price of 200,000. Dr Benson said, “I want to keep the building as it is. I don’t…

The Old Observatory in Herstmonceux, East Sussex

Wasn’t too much here but still worth a visit if you’re in the area. Some history from Wikipedia.. In 1957 the Herstmonceux Castle grounds became the home of the Royal Greenwich Observatory and remained so until 1988 when the observatory moved to Cambridge. Several of the telescopes remain but the largest telescope, the 100 inch (254 cm) aperture Isaac Newton Telescope was moved to La Palma, Canary Islands in the 1970s. The estate provides housing to the Equatorial Telescope Buildings, which have been converted to an interactive science centre for…
